The Holistic Nomads- Group Project Experience

The Holistic Nomads.
KiaraAnthonySergioMiguel and Isabel

Usually I’m the type of person that does not like group projects because I’m always the one that ends up doing everything. For this reason, I was very worried once Prof. Pittmann divided us into groups. I’m very happy that during this specific case, my worries did not come true. This is probably the only group project experience that I actually enjoyed and that I never felt anxious to do activities in. We ended up choosing the name “Holistic Nomads”. My experience with this group was amazing and now I will share why.
At the start we were all assigned roles and I was an administrator. The first assignment took us so long to do because we were busy getting to know each other, but we were able to hand it in the other class. We would always have difficulty completing the assignments on time because we would get distracted and start talking about different things, but we always got everything done. If they would let us, we would spend the entire hour talking. Usually when we were divided into our groups, we felt as if we were the only group that could be heard laughing obnoxiously.  I love the dynamic that my group had because even though we all had assigned roles, everyone would help one another. If Isabel was writing, all of us would be researching while trying to piece together all our ideas. When it came to talking in front of the entire classroom, I never felt nervous while being around my group because I knew they wouldn’t make fun of me.
Aside from seeing each other in the classroom we would also communicate by using our group chat. We would remind each other to do the assignments and help each other out with them. Each group member has unique qualities that somehow made all of us be very comfortable around each other. Kiara and I have so many things in common and now we talk almost every day. She’s always making jokes while also making fun of me, and that always makes me laugh. Miguel, Sergio, and Anthony would always make us laugh with their comments and jokes. Isabel would always know how to interpret what I was trying to tell her when we were writing for our different English assignments. I’m going to miss helping Anthony through the group chat, hearing Kiara make fun of Miguel all the time, Sergio and I looking at each other in the classroom when some weird noise was happening, Miguel helping me do english assignments and laughing while we made fun of him through the groupchat and texting with Isabel because we always have the same doubts. I will miss talking to each other in the hallway before the class and laughing when someone would come walking rapidly in fear of being late. It was a bonding experience that I will cherish forever.
The group experience was probably my favorite part of the class because I realized that it gave me new friends that I appreciate a lot. Everything we are together we’re always laughing and having a good time. We even have planned to go out in the summer and spend some time together without having to worry about taking class. Being a first-year student can be overwhelming and intimidating because going from the high school scene to a huge campus is a big change. By making friends in this class I was able to feel more comfortable and relaxed as the days went by. I will remember this experience forever.

  1. I feel the exact same way. Not everyone is lucky enough to meet new friends that quickly. It took me at least two years to have people to laugh with. Be grateful that you met some truly great people on your first attempt. Keep us close. On a side note, thanks for helping me out. You have served as a very good agenda... Its a joke. Besides helping my forgetful self, you and the others have helped me emotionally. Though you may think you did little, it meant the world to me. Loved your reflection, very relatable.

  2. HIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!! As i kept reading your amazing post, I imagine all of us back in that classroom, talking about everything instead of doing work. I also remember how much we talk about Hamilton and other musicals. We are so lucky to have found each other and I really hope that all of us continue being friends.
